Allianz Travel Insurance in New Zealand is issued and managed by AWP Services New Zealand Limited, trading as Allianz Partners, and underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo. It replaced the Worldcare brand in August 2024. Its plans are open to travellers of all ages. We read the August 2025 policy wording and looked for NZ customer reviews, which turned out to be scarce.

What is Allianz Partners and who's behind it?
Allianz Partners is the assistance and travel insurance arm of the German Allianz group, founded in 1890. In New Zealand it trades through AWP Services New Zealand Limited, based in Takapuna, Auckland. Its direct travel brand in NZ was Worldcare, established in 2014, which rebranded to Allianz Travel Insurance in August 2024 with the same team behind it.
The policies are underwritten by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, Limited (MSI, FSP 20661, incorporated in Japan), which is rated A+ (Stable) by S&P Global Ratings. AWP holds a binding authority from MSI to issue policies and settle claims, and earns a fee for each policy sold. MSI is a member of the Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman (IFSO) scheme.
Allianz Partners also runs travel insurance sold under other NZ brands. Tower Travel is issued and managed by Allianz Partners and underwritten by Tower Limited, ANZ travel insurance is issued and managed by Allianz Partners and underwritten by MSI, and AA Travel Insurance policies issued before 1 December 2025 were administered by Allianz Partners. The direct Allianz Travel range includes:
Policies can be bought at allianztravel.co.nz or by calling 0800 553 550 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm). Overseas emergency assistance runs 24/7, and Allianz Partners says it handled 95.4 million cases worldwide in 2024. The full terms are in the policy wording.
What review platforms show for Allianz travel insurance, and why NZ data is thin
Note on rating differences: We could not find a review profile for Allianz Travel Insurance NZ with enough public reviews to rate it. There is no NZ Trustpilot profile, and the Allianz Trustpilot profiles we found are for other countries, such as the USA and France, where the products are different. The closest large sample is ProductReview.com.au's Allianz Travel Insurance listing (3.8/5 from 3,145 reviews, 78% positive), but those reviewers are Australian and their policies are issued under Australian terms. The Worldcare listing (4.4/5 from 1,922 reviews) is also Australian. We show these figures for context only. For that reason our listing uses an editorial score rather than a customer rating. We do our best to keep all data up to date and accurate. If you've noticed something incorrect, please let us know.
Themes from Australian Allianz Travel reviews, shown for context because NZ reviews are scarce
Great company to deal with, even two years after the event. Everyone I spoke to was courteous and helpful.
My wife was injured on day two. Once we sent the itinerary, bookings and medical reports, it was all sorted in 10 days.
A cruise cancellation claim was rejected under a policy exclusion, and I have had to take it to the external dispute scheme.
Our flight cancellation claim was received, processed and approved within three days after a helpful phone call.
Items lost on the plane were not covered, because the policy excludes things lost during flights. Read the fine print.
The claims team gave nursing guidance while we were still overseas, and turned the claim around quickly.
Reviews are paraphrased summaries of real customer reviews, not direct quotes. They come from Australian customers on ProductReview.com.au, whose Allianz policies have different terms and underwriting from NZ policies, and are shown only because we could not find a usable sample of NZ reviews. Theme percentages are the positive, neutral and negative shares shown on the ProductReview.com.au Allianz Travel Insurance listing (3,145 reviews) as viewed in September 2026.
Allianz Travel NZ offers four travel plans plus optional packs, and no other insurance direct
The top single-trip plan. $20 million overseas medical and emergency assistance ($40 million family), cancellation cover you select, and luggage, rental vehicle excess and travel delay benefits. Existing medical conditions can be assessed for cover. See the policy wording.
Medical-focused cover. Same $20 million overseas medical and assistance limits as Comprehensive, plus funeral expenses and $2.5 million personal liability, but no cancellation, luggage or rental vehicle cover. Existing conditions cannot be added.
A 12-month policy covering as many trips as you like, each up to 15, 30 or 45 days. Limits reset after each trip (except personal liability). NZ trips are covered if they include an overnight stay at least 250 km from home.
Cover for trips within New Zealand, including cancellation, luggage, travel delay and rental vehicle insurance excess.
Optional packs extend cover for snow sports, listed adventure activities and cruises. Snow and Adventure Packs require you to be under 75 at purchase, and a non-removable $500 excess applies to some medical and cancellation claims arising from those activities.

How much does Allianz Travel cost? Indicative ranges based on our travel insurance cost guide
Allianz Travel NZ does not publish sample premiums, so the figures below are market ranges from our travel insurance cost guide, not Allianz quotes. Our guide places Allianz Partners in the comprehensive part of the market. The policy wording says premiums reflect destination, trip length, cover chosen, the number and ages of travellers, how far ahead you buy, existing conditions and the excess you choose.
Disclaimer: These are indicative market ranges from our travel insurance cost guide, not Allianz quotes. Your premium depends on your destination, age, trip length, plan, excess, existing medical conditions and any packs you add. Get an accurate quote at allianztravel.co.nz. We do our best to keep all data up to date and accurate. If you've noticed something incorrect, please let us know.
You list your destinations (or regions) when you buy, and the policy only covers the places on your Certificate of Insurance.
Longer trips cost more, and the policy wording says the time between buying and departure is also a pricing factor.
Single, Duo and Family cover types have different limits, and the ages of everyone insured affect the price.
Approved existing conditions may add premium and a separate medical excess, which replaces the base excess for related claims.
You can vary the base excess. A higher excess lowers the premium but increases what you pay on each claim.
Snow, Adventure and Cruise Packs add premium, and Snow or Adventure claims can carry an extra $500 non-removable excess.

Other travel insurance options worth considering, depending on your priorities
Zurich-underwritten travel insurance with unlimited overseas medical on every international plan and higher Comprehensive+ limits, including up to $10,000 rental vehicle excess.
One of NZ's most recognised travel insurance brands, with unlimited overseas medical on its International Comprehensive plan plus annual multi-trip and domestic options.
Adventure-focused cover for NZ residents aged 69 or younger that can be bought while already overseas. The Explorer plan has unlimited medical and cancellation limits.
AA Travel Insurance offers Essential, Comprehensive and Frequent Traveller plans. Policies issued from 1 December 2025 are underwritten by Zurich New Zealand and administered by Cover-More.
Allianz Travel may suit some travellers more than others
Travellers of any age, since the Comprehensive, Basic, Multi-Trip and Domestic plans have no upper age limit. Existing conditions can be assessed on Comprehensive and Multi-Trip.
People taking several trips a year who want a 12-month Multi-Trip policy with a choice of 15, 30 or 45 day maximum trip lengths.
Travellers wanting optional Snow, Adventure or Cruise Packs added to a Comprehensive or Multi-Trip plan.
Travellers who want unlimited overseas medical cover, people already overseas without insurance, or anyone who wants plenty of NZ customer reviews to judge claims service before buying.
Compare.org.nz's editorial assessment of Allianz Travel Insurance
Allianz Travel's biggest strength is who it covers. All four plans are open to travellers of any age, the Multi-Trip plan offers three trip-length options, and the Snow, Adventure and Cruise Packs let you tailor cover. The underwriter, Mitsui Sumitomo, carries an A+ rating from S&P, and Allianz Partners already runs travel insurance for other well-known NZ brands such as Tower and ANZ.
The main product trade-off is the $20 million cap on overseas medical costs. That is a high figure that covers most situations, but Cover-More, Southern Cross and World Nomads' Explorer plan all advertise unlimited medical cover. The 14-day cooling-off period and weekday-only sales line are also less generous than some rivals.
We could not find a usable sample of NZ customer reviews for Allianz Travel or its former Worldcare brand, so this score leans on the policy wording rather than customer experience. Australian reviews of Allianz Travel (3.8/5 on ProductReview.com.au) are broadly positive about claim speed, with complaints centred on exclusions and repeated document requests, but they cover different policies. Allianz Travel may suit older travellers and frequent travellers wanting flexible Multi-Trip cover.
